What is infertility and what does it look like?
Infertility is the inability to conceive a child. There are my different reasons why someone may be infertile. It is not only women who are infertile when talking about infertility. Men play a huge role in conception.
After trying to conceive for a period of time with no success, it is time to speak with your doctor and possibly be referred to a fertility specialist known as a reproductive endocrinologist. At this time, both yourself and your partner will need to go through a series of tests in an attempt to find the cause.
So what does infertility look like? It looks like me… After having an ectopic (tubal) pregnancy, I ended up having to have one of my Fallopian tubes removed due to severe damage. While going through a series of tests to see why I wasn’t able to conceive on my own, it was discovered that my remaining tube was filled with fluid and completely blocked on both ends, known as hydrosalpinx. With this discovery and much consideration, we made the decision with our specialist to have the remaining Fallopian tube removed as well. What does this mean for me and my conception? It means that we would have to undergo IVF (In Vetro Fertilization).
Fertility is more common than many people think and is rarely talked about. It does not define you. You are not alone.
